By accepting private gifts on behalf of the university, the Fredonia College Foundation lets individuals, businesses and foundations play a role in shaping and ensuring a bright future for an institution of higher learning that has existed for nearly 200 years. Founded in 1826 as the Fredonia Academy, the State University College at Fredonia traces its roots to the earlier years of a developing nation, when citizens were prepared and trained to take the lamp of learning to one-room schoolhouses throughout the land.

Today, private gifts create scholarships for deserving students in more than 80 majors, support the research and teaching of exceptional faculty, enhance capital projects, and enrich the academic and intellectual experience of the campus and community through speaker series, special events, and social and cultural programs.
