Everyone loves seeing an ‘A’ at the end of the semester. Here are a few tips to get the grades you want:
Go to every class. Classes are important. Sit near the front of the room. Pay attention. Take notes. Participate. The more involved you are, asking questions, answering questions, talking ideas out loud, the more familiar you will be with the class material. If you know what’s going on in class, you will breeze through the exam time.
If you miss a class, go to your professor’s office hours. Get some one-on-one time with him or her. The more you discuss the subject you are studying, the easier it will be come exam time.
Don’t cram. Don’t procrastinate. Don’t wait until the last minute to study or write an essay. Work in groups. Get different perspectives from your class mates. Study with them. If you are having an issue with a particular topic in class, it’s likely that other students are as well. Getting together with them will help you work out any topics you are having trouble understanding.
If you are having A LOT of trouble, you may want to consider seeking out a tutor. Many colleges in the USA have free tutoring centers for students. All you have to do is show up, pay attention, and put in a little bit of effort, and like that, you’ll be coasting through your semester.
Some other helpful tips:
-study your notes after you take them, refer back to them as often as possible after that
-ask about extra credit, there may be extra work you can do to boost up your grade
-if there are teaching assistants in class, take advantage of their help
-get to know your professors, if they know who you are, it may be easier for them to understand your writing and answers
Remember, there is no reason to get bad grades in college. You have to really try hard to do bad, so if you put that effort in a positive direction, you are bound to do well, maybe even better than you expected… You’ll pass with flying colors.
